The Purpose Of Fasting In Judaism

Today is Tzom Gedaliah (The Fast of Gedaliah) an obligatory fast. Rabbi Yaron Reuven says the purpose of fasting in Judaism is to do TeShuva. Rabbi Reuven says this time between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur should be used to get closer to HaShem.
